Casey Stengel

Charles Dillon "The Old Perfessor" Stengel
Batted: Left
Threw: Left
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 175 lbs.
Born: July 30, 1890 in Kansas City, MO
Signed: selected by the Brooklyn Dodgers from Aurora in the Rule 5 Draft, September 1911
Died: September 29, 1975 in Glendale, CA

Casey won five World Championships in a row, from 1949 to 1953 (his first five years as the skipper of the Yankees). The next season, his club won 103 games but came in second in the AL. Then the Yanks appeared in the World Series for Casey five more times in the next six seasons, winning two of those as well. His ticket to Cooperstown was punched. Casey's 1952 Bowman card is pictured here, and many more cards are pictured below—including the oldest item in my collection: a B18 felt blanket from 1914.
