Rick Reed

Richard Allen Reed
Batted: Right
Threw: Right
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 195 lbs.
Born: August 16, 1964 in Huntington, WV
Drafted: 26th round 1986 by the Pittsburgh Pirates
Acquired: as a free agent, November 1995
Departed: traded to the Minnesota Twins for
Matt Lawton, July 2001

He was called "the poor man's Greg Maddux." In reality he was a superb control pitcher who overcame many obstacles to be a frontline pitcher in the major leagues, winning almost 60 games for the Mets in his 4 New York seasons. He was traded to the Twins at the 2001 trade deadline for outfielder Matt Lawton. Pictured is a card from the 1990 BYN Puerto Rican Winter League. Nine more cards from Rick's fascinating career are pictured below.
