Darren signed a contract with the Mets in the winter following the 2005 season (which had not seen him log so much as a single pitch in the big leagues) and pitched well enough during Spring Training to snag the 25th roster spot in April. He continued on to record his best season since his rookie campaign a dozen years previous--then just kept on getting better. His 2001 Bowman Heritage card is shown here.
