"Okay, it's official now: Nobody can pitch at Coors Field." That's what I wrote back around 2002 when Mike was flaming out after choosing the Colorado school system over the bright lights of New York. This was, of course, during the pre-humidor days when it seemed like, in fact, nobody could author a successful pitching line for the Rockies.
What a pleasure it was to watch Mike Hampton pitch, hit, run, and field just a year earlier at Shea, though. A terrific athlete and a battler whose never-say-die attitude helped to inspire the 2000 NL Champions. Pictured here is a 2000 Pacific Private Stock Gold Portrait, serial-numbered to 99.
