Jeff came to New York in a surprising swap of right fielders between the Mets and their old foes the Braves just before the 2009 All-Star break. Once thought to be a budding star for hometown Atlanta, Jeff had fallen into disfavor because of his lack of plate discipline and dwindling power. A year later he had regained a semblance of respect for his game: Jason Fry of the Mets blog called "Faith and Fear in Flushing" wrote of him, "Francoeur plays baseball like a dog racing after a Frisbee, and even when he’s doing something spectacularly ill-advised you can’t help grinning at the idea that he just might pull it off."
