This knuckleballer signed a minor-league deal with the Mets at Christmastime in 2009 and started the next season at Buffalo. When the rotation fell apart (as rotations inevitably must), he got called up in May and, against all odds, went on to become the Mets' Pitcher of the Year for the next three years, culminating in the 2012 NL Cy Young award.
