Sandy Alomar, Sr.

Santos "Iron Pony" Alomar Sr. Conde
Batted: Both
Threw: Right
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 155 lbs.
Born: October 19, 1943 in Salinas, PR
Signed: 1960 by the Milwaukee Braves
Acquired: traded from the Houston Astros for Derrell Griffith, March 1967
Departed: sent to the Chicago White Sox to complete an earlier deal, August 1967; the Mets had traded
Ken Boyer and a player to be named later (Alomar) to the White Sox for Bill Southworth and a player to be named later (J. C. Martin)

Best known as the father of Roberto and Sandy Junior (both of whom followed him to call Shea Stadium home for a time), this little infielder's entire tenure with the Mets consisted of starting the season 0-for-22 in 1967, until he became Willie Randolph's bench coach in 2005, moving to third-base coach the following year. Pictured is his card from the 1965 Topps set.  Five more cards are shown below.
