This Colorado Rockies home jersey was worn by
outfielder Jay Payton in 2003,
during his most successful season in the majors, as he tallied
28 home runs, 89 RBI, and batted .302.
It appeared that long-awaited stardom was finally on the horizon for Jay,
but he never approached those lofty numbers again.
Jay had been the Mets' top minor-league
prospect for years before that,
and had experienced some success at the major-league level too;
he had hit as many as 17 home runs and batted over .290 while with the Mets.
Payton is a member of the New York Mets Hall
of Records Hall of Heroes.
